| Dear Church Family:
I’ve given my life to being a pastor—your pastor. And I have to tell you one of things that breaks my heart is when people bad-mouth the Church of Jesus Christ.
People use any shortcoming as an excuse to abandon the Church and its amazing force for good in the world. Spirituality is fine, they say, but don’t bother with organized religion.
The negative public opinion about Church can make a pastor lose heart—and a congregation too.
I have devoted 37 years of my life to ministry (and counting), and I am more convinced than ever of the need not only to defend the faith, but also to defend the Church.
The Church is God’s idea of a living, breathing, active expression of his presence in the world.
As the people of God, we are called to love him with our whole being: heart, soul, mind and strength. We are called to unity in worship and purpose. We are called to uphold truth and virtue. We are called to love one another—and even our enemies. We are called to be the voice of justice and compassion. We are called as messengers of the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
I can tell you without reservation that Cherry Hills Community Church is striving to be what God intends us be. And it’s time to stand up and declare: I ♥ My Church.
Sunday, March 7 is the anniversary of our founding as a congregation in 1982. I can’t think of a better day to begin this new teaching series. I hope you will join with me to say: I ♥ My Church.
Serving Christ with you,
Jim
