Trip Information
Started in 1999, Living Hope Community Centre is a faith-based organization in the Southern Peninsula region of the Western Cape of South Africa. The ministry focus is on the prevention, care and treatment of HIV and AIDS. The foundation stone they have built on is in the Lord Jesus Christ who said, "As much as you do for one of the least of these, you do for Me."
South Africa’s children are dying from AIDS. More children are dying from HIV/AIDS each year. In Cape Town’s poorest neighbor-hoods, HIV/AIDS stands out as by far the most common cause of death.
This is true, not only for children, but for every category of people. Prevention is a huge part of Living Hope’s focus. Prevention is done mainly through a Life Skills program, Children’s and Holiday Clubs and work in Kalk Bay, Simon’s Town and Muizenberg’s public schools. Abstinence and faithfulness are emphasized for the youth and adults. In the Children’s Clubs, kids in high-risk families are provided a safe place in which to play, eat nourishing food and see positive role models for their lives. Every aspect of the prevention work includes HIV and AIDS lessons and words from the Bible to give hope and guidance to those who desire it.
Kerus House of Encouragement is located in the township of Soshanguve, has been caring for orphans in Soshanguve, South Africa, since June of 2008. After school each day, the children come to eat a nutritious meal and play in safety. They receive medical care, tutoring for their schoolwork, and spiritual development training that will help them chart a positive course for their lives.
All of the children attend school and live with a caring adult in the community. Kerus House assists these primary caregivers: it is not a residential orphanage where children spend the night. The center eases the financial burden of caring for each child, allowing caregivers to provide emotional support and instill cultural heritage in their homes. Currently, 50 children are receiving care As you consider going on this trip, we pray that you will understand the significance of reaching out to the victims of the HIV/AIDS pandemic with the love of Christ not only in South Africa but, upon your return, by serving locally to help the afflicted here in Denver.
