The brightly colored poster has hung like wallpaper on my wall since the day I came on staff almost ten years ago. It reads like a list of ingredients for a happy home life:

• Be there.

• Say yes as often as possible.

• Plant licorice in your garden.

• Laugh a lot.

There’s one, though, that stands out like a three-dimensional neon sign: “Learn about Parenting”. Seems late in the day as a mom with three children between 17 and 21 years of age, don’t you think? Not so! My husband and I are constantly being stretched to lead an authentic spiritual life at home. Late night chats and quick emails have replaced conversations at bedtime or talks in the car.

The Family Ministry department has spent the last nine months listening to parents as they’ve shared their hopes and dreams for their families.

Two things have surfaced that have provided the impetus for the future of Family Ministry here at Cherry Hills. The first thing is that parents understand that the primary spiritual influence on their children comes from parents and grandparents. The second thing is that many readily admit they just don’t know how to do it.

If that’s how you feel, you’re in good company. You’re not alone! I’m excited about the resources Family Ministry will be offering to come alongside parents and grandparents to strengthen and encourage their spiritual journey at home. Check out the Family Ministry website regularly for new offerings, ideas, classes and resources as together we strive to reach the next generation for Christ!

God’s blessings,

Sheila Robinson
Family Ministry Director
